From Gotland Wool, by Hand

On the island of Gotland, Evy turns raw wool into things worth keeping — a rug for the floor, a garment for the cold months. She sources the wool from local Gotland lamb farmers, then sees each piece through from fleece to finished object, entirely by hand. Some pieces are ready now. Others she'll make just for you.

The maker

Evy's Story

Evy is a grandmother from Gotland, working with wool sourced from the island's own lamb farmers — a breed known for its long, curling grey fleece. She spins it, then weaves or felts it into carpets, garments, and other pieces, one step at a time, the old way.

Most weekends, you'll find her at a market somewhere in Sweden — often on Gotland, sometimes further afield on the mainland — meeting the people who take her work home. She once drove all the way to Germany to deliver a rug in person. She also works to order, for anyone who wants something made specifically for them.

Each rug begins as raw wool and ends up on someone's floor, woven entirely by hand. No two come out quite alike. Since every piece is made to size, get in touch and Evy will help you work out what's right for your space.
